Access to the contraceptive option Sayana^® Press continues to expand worldwide. Between July 2014 and June 2015, approximately 6,500 health providers in Burkina Faso, Niger, Senegal, and Uganda were trained to administer Sayana Press and offer the product along with other methods in the context of informed choice.

PATH and partners are monitoring the first four Sayana Press introductions in sub-Saharan Africa to help stakeholders make decisions on whether and how to include this contraceptive option in family planning programs.

Highlights of monitoring data through June 2015 include:

• 167,920 doses of Sayana Press were administered to women in Burkina Faso, Niger, Senegal, and Uganda.
• Burkina Faso has administered 111,333 of those doses, due mainly to rapid cascade training and widespread availability of the product at every level of the health system.
• Consumption in Senegal has increased steadily since introduction launched in early 2015 (the last of the four countries).
• Niger and Uganda report the largest proportions of Sayana Press doses administered to new family planning users, likely due to introduction strategies that emphasize delivery at the most peripheral levels of the health system.
• About 45% of doses of Sayana Press administered across Niger, Senegal, and Uganda were given to women under age 25(no data available for Burkina Faso).
