Global Indicators & Reporting
Core indicators were carefully chosen to align with existing country data systems and monitoring initiatives.
Focus Area
Before the introduction of FP2020, the family planning community mainly depended on conducting national health surveys every five years to monitor their progress.
However, to ensure a more frequent and comprehensive assessment of global progress in family planning across countries, the Performance Monitoring & Evidence Working Group of FP2020, consisting of experts in measurement, introduced a set of Core Indicators. PME WG aimed to gather essential information on various aspects of family planning, including contraceptive use, method choice, quality, availability, and other crucial factors.
