Rwanda

For more than 20 years, the Government of Rwanda has been working to rebuild its health personnel and infrastructure shattered during the genocide.

With two-thirds of the population under the age of 25, in 2017 Rwanda revised its commitment from 2012 to measure successful demand creation for family planning and increase the total demand for contraception for married women from 72% to 82% by 2020. Traditionally, having children has been a source of pride and respect and, as a result, Rwanda is the most densely populated country in Africa. The Government of Rwanda aims to disseminate its first-ever integrated Reproductive Maternal Newborn Child and Adolescent Health strategy across the country, working alongside partners to advance cost-effective implementation strategic plans and systematic monitoring for greater impact.
