“Building off previous HP+ analyses in Latin America and the Caribbean region, we examined whether the inclusion of family planning services in health insurance benefits packages lead to increased access to and use of family planning services. The report documents the characteristics of health insurance schemes and the extent that family planning has been incorporated in each scheme; the association between insurance coverage and modern contraceptive prevalence rate, method mix, and source of method; and whether insurance status is associated with improved family planning access among the poor. The analysis verifies the relationship between including family planning services in benefits packages and higher rates of modern contraceptive use and the potential to promote the use of family planning services through insurance.”
