In 2012, the Population Council committed to increasing access to and availability of family planning and other reproductive health services in countries where people are unable to achieve their reproductive health goals. The Population Council pledged to promote reproductive rights to reduce inequalities in access to and use of reproductive health services related to wealth, age, and gender.

Population Council Commitment Narratives

  • Reduce global maternal mortality to less than 70 deaths per 100,000 live births through skilled attendance at births, increased antenatal care visits, and timely postpartum care.
  • Reduce under-five mortality to less than or equal to 25 deaths per 1,000 live births by addressing neonatal mortality, promoting early breastfeeding, ensuring postnatal care, and combating malnutrition.
  • Provide comprehensive SRHR services to all women of reproductive age (15-49), including access to modern family planning methods, reducing adolescent birth rates, promoting informed decision-making, and advocating for supportive policies and laws.
