Merck for Mothers

Merck for Mothers is a 10-year, $500 million initiative launched by Merck, a global pharmaceutical company, to improve maternal health and reduce maternal mortality worldwide.

The initiative aims to ensure that no woman dies while giving life by providing access to quality maternal healthcare and modern contraceptives. Merck for Mothers utilizes scientific and business expertise, as well as financial resources, to address the challenges surrounding maternal mortality.

  • Empower women to make informed choices about contraceptives and quality care.
  • Equip healthcare providers with skills, tools, and technologies for high-quality services.
  • Strengthen health systems to sustain the delivery of quality services.
  • Fund the largest clinical trial on postpartum hemorrhage in partnership with Ferring Pharmaceuticals and the World Health Organization.
  • Launch a health development impact bond in collaboration with UBS, USAID, and the government of Rajasthan.
  • Join the Global Financing Facility as the first private sector partner.
  • Advocate for the government of Senegal to assume responsibility for an innovative model that reduces stockouts of contraceptives.
  • Launch the Manyata quality improvement and assurance model in India.
  • Work in over 30 countries around the world, with intensive efforts in India, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, Uganda, the United States, and Zambia.
  • Ensure commitment-related objectives and targets are aligned with national health strategies.
  • Provide access to quality modern contraception and enable women to make informed decisions about contraception.
  • Improve quality, equity, and dignity in services by supporting quality maternity care models.
