Aparna Jain is the Senior Program Officer for Family Planning Data at the Gates Foundation. Prior to this, she served as the Chief of Party for CARE-GBV, a USAID Task Order aimed at strengthening GBV programming across USAID.
Dr. Jain has over 20 years of experience working in international public health including implementation science, operations research, monitoring and evaluation, program design and management. Her family planning research includes exploring contraceptive use dynamics, determining factors that influence contraceptive switching and continuation, task-shifting injectable & implant contraceptives to drug shops owners and private pharmacies and mitigating the barriers to adolescents’ access to sexual and reproductive health services. Dr. Jain and colleagues introduced the MII plus, a core indicator of FP2030 framework, and an individual-level measure of discontinuation using the DHS surveys. Dr. Jain has a PhD in population studies from Johns Hopkins University, an MPH from Columbia University, and a BA from Oberlin College. She is a member of the Population Association of America and sits on the editorial committee for Studies in Family Planning.
