Germany commits approximately 200 million Euros of its bilateral funding in 2022 and 2023 to rights-based family planning and reproductive health.

25% of this is likely to be dedicated directly to family planning per year (25% out 100 Mio. Euro yearly), depending on partner countries’ priorities. These include contributions to UNFPA Supplies, the UNFPA MHTF, and the annual core contribution to IPPF and other FiT payments.

Germany’s Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) provides rights-based family planning services in more than 20 countries. By the end of 2023, they will have provided funding for family planning services, including modern contraceptives to reach 6 million CYP.

Germany’s Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) Commitment Objectives

  • Provide funding for family planning services and modern contraceptives to reach 6 million Couple Years of Protection (CYP) by the end of 2023.
  • Ensure access to sexual and reproductive health and rights information and services in more than 20 countries.
  • Support women and girls in the realization of their sexual rights and reproductive health services, targeting an X number of beneficiaries by the end of 2023.
  • Secure approximately 200 million Euros of bilateral funding from Germany in 2022 and 2023 for rights-based family planning and reproductive health initiatives.
  • Allocate 25% of the funding directly to family planning programs each year, based on partner countries’ priorities.
  • Contribute to UNFPA Supplies, the UNFPA MHTF (Maternal Health Thematic Fund), and provide an annual core contribution to IPPF (International Planned Parenthood Federation) and other FiT (Family Planning, Sexual and Reproductive Health, and Maternal Health) payments.
  • Strengthen UNFPA’s efforts by supporting them with an annual core contribution.
  • Extend funding support for family planning services in more than 20 partner countries throughout 2022-2023.
  • Empower women and girls to exercise their right to sexual self-determination and access comprehensive reproductive health services by the end of 2023.
  • Align the timeline for achieving objectives with the 2022-2023 period.
