Vietnam continues to work to generate an adequate budget to ensure poor, marginalized, hard-to-reach, and ethnic minority groups have access to family planning.
The country is presently implementing the second phase of the Vietnamese Population and Reproductive Health Strategy with the goal of ensuring all women of reproductive age have convenient access to contraceptives by 2030.

In 2016, Vietnam made its FP2020 commitment to ensure universal access to family planning and increase the modern contraceptive prevalence rate for married women to 70% by 2020 (from 67.5% in 2015).
Vietnam Commitment Objectives
- Ensure universal access to family planning services
- Increase the mCPR (modern Contraceptive Prevalence Rate) for married women (ages 15-49) to 70% by 2020
- Strengthen family planning counseling and services for adolescents and youth
- Improve the quality of family planning services
- Conduct population campaigns and awareness activities in high fertility rate areas and communities with limited access to reproductive health services
- Promote communication and advocacy for integrating family planning and reproductive health services in disadvantaged and high-fertility areas
- Develop national standards for quality contraceptive methods
- Strengthen collaboration with UNFPA and other organizations in supporting family planning and reproductive health services
- Integrate family planning into universal health coverage (UHC)-oriented schemes, ensuring availability, accessibility, and acceptability of services
- Foster the involvement of civil society organizations, young people, and marginalized women and girls in decision-making about national family planning programs and policies.
