Honduras is currently debating between the rights-based need to approve a comprehensive sexual education law and the voice of conservative groups that openly oppose its approval.

Therefore, it is imperative to urge the Honduran state to implement sexuality education throughout the formal and non-formal educational cycle, as well as in the training and updating of teachers. This is due to the fact that sexual, scientific and secular education in Honduras is an urgent and pending debt, as part of the formal and non-formal education process for children and adolescents, especially to avoid the negative consequences that its absence brings: high rates of unwanted pregnancies, clandestine and unsafe abortions, high rates of maternal deaths in adolescents, sexually transmitted infections, sexual violence, among others.

Due to this context, LLAVES works very closely with communities to alleviate the need for sexual education. In 2023, we trained 1,829 young people in life skills, 244 teachers and school principals who received information on human rights and sexual and reproductive rights, we have strengthened a network of active young volunteers, reached more than 3 million interactions on social networks, trained 17 prosecutors and judges and 100 health personnel in sexual rights.
