Japan has been at the forefront of promoting family planning initiatives, combining maternal health with community-based approaches to successfully reduce maternal mortality rates.
The country has a rich history of providing substantial financial assistance to countries in need and continues to do so, with a focus on empowering individuals and improving reproductive health outcomes.
Commitments made to:
Japan has successfully combined maternal health and family planning with community-based approaches to drastically reduce its maternal mortality rate. Since 2000, Japan has given more than US$570 million toward family planning, and, in 2012, Japan committed to disbursing US$36 million to UNFPA and IPPF.
