Although there has been progress in the fight for women’s rights, obstacles and dynamics continue to hinder the free exercise of autonomy and decision-making to guarantee Sexual Rights and Reproductive Rights.
In Colombia, there are complex challenges in terms of access to contraceptive methods for women living in urban and rural areas: it is very difficult for women to make free, autonomous and informed decisions about their bodies, increasing the rates of unwanted pregnancies, sexual violence, and gender violence (direct, symbolic and structural). Hence the importance of organizations such as the Fundación Natalia Ponce de Léon: we are a non-profit organization created to defend, promote and protect the human rights of survivors of chemical attacks, and to prevent and push for the prosecution of violence against women and girls, from a human rights and gender perspective.
Commitments made to:
Considering this context and the mission of our organization, by 2024 we plan to impact 1,000 people nationwide both in person and virtually, through our program “For Me, For You, For Both”. This program adopts a pedagogical and innovative approach for the prevention of gender violence, through Comprehensive Sexual Education (including knowledge of the body, the redefinition of the sociocultural identities of the sex-gender binomial, knowledge of rights for autonomous decision-making and access routes to services, particularly for the population of young people and adolescents, both men and women).
As a crosscutting objective, we aim to contribute to the development of competencies, the recognition of personal and social resources, and the increase of skills for informed and autonomous decision-making on Sexual and Reproductive Rights. We want to continue contributing to the prevention of unwanted pregnancies and the elimination of gender violence, promote access to contraceptive methods and raise awareness about people’s rights through education using innovative, fun, in-person and virtual tools.
