visionVision

Canada made a commitment of CAD241.5 million in 2017, to fund initiatives that strengthen reproductive health services, respond to and prevent gender-based violence, and invest in family planning and contraceptives.

Canada Commitment Objectives

  • Implement comprehensive policies and programs to ensure that all women and girls in Canada have access to a wide range of affordable and effective contraceptive methods, promoting reproductive autonomy and empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their reproductive health.
  • Develop targeted initiatives and resources to provide comprehensive sexuality education and accessible contraception to adolescents and youth, ensuring that they have the necessary knowledge and tools to make informed choices regarding their sexual and reproductive health.
  • Strengthen support and funding for family planning services in humanitarian crises, ensuring that displaced women and girls have access to lifesaving contraception, reproductive healthcare, and protection from sexual violence.
  • Foster public-private partnerships to increase the range of contraceptive methods available and affordable in Canada, particularly among hard-to-reach and vulnerable populations, allowing individuals to choose the method that best suits their needs and preferences.
  • Improve data collection systems and monitoring mechanisms to gather accurate and disaggregated data on family planning and contraception, enabling evidence-based decision-making, tracking progress, and ensuring accountability in achieving reproductive health goals.
  • Collaborate with international partners, organizations, and donor countries to share knowledge, resources, and best practices in family planning, contributing to global efforts to empower women and girls, reduce maternal mortality, and promote sustainable development.
