ALIANMISAR

ALIANMISAR emerged in the face of the large gaps observed in health indicators between non-indigenous and indigenous populations on the issue of comprehensive women's health that involves reproductive health and works to raise awareness about reproductive health issues among indigenous communities, including access to contraception, safe abortion, and maternal health services.

The Alianza Nacional de Organizaciones de Mujeres Indigenas por la Salud Reproductiva has been instrumental in promoting the participation of indigenous women in decision-making processes related to their reproductive health, both at the community and national levels.

ALIANMISAR Commitment Narratives

  • By 2030, ALIANMISAR will impact 530,000 adolescent, young, and adult Mayan women in the departments of Chimaltenango, Quiche, Totonicapán, Quetzaltenango, San Marcos, and Huehuetenango in training activities on the human rights of indigenous women for the defense, promotion, and exercise of their sexual and reproductive rights, so that they can access health services with cultural relevance.
  • By 2030, ALIANMISAR will have advocated for the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health to allocate resources to ensure the implementation of the Prevent through Education Charter and the Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) policy for adolescents and youth, for the benefit of the Mayan population of the departments of Chimaltenango, Quiche, Totonicapán, Quetzaltenango, San Marcos, and Huehuetenango, in coordination with organizations that are working in the defense, promotion, and exercise of the rights to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health, with attention to the rights of adolescents and youth, Quiche, Totonicapán, Quetzaltenango, San Marcos and Huehuetenango in coordination with the organizations that are working in the defense, promotion, and exercise of the rights to sexual and integral health, with differentiated and quality attention to the adolescent and young population, for the prevention of teenage pregnancies.
  • By 2030, ALIANMISAR has lobbied the congressional commissions on women and indigenous peoples so that the Minister of Health present an annual report on progress and limitations in the fulfillment of the sexual and reproductive rights of Mayan women with a focus on rights, gender, and cultural relevance.
