The Republic of The Gambia is committed to expanding access to voluntary family planning and sexual and reproductive health services to all its citizens, including adolescents and youth, by the year 2020.
The government aims to achieve this commitment through various financial, policy, and programmatic actions. These actions include ensuring commodity security, availability of service providers and equipment, regular supervision, and monitoring and evaluation.
Commitments made to:
A Commitment Maker since March 2019, the Government of The Gambia (GoG) recognizes the need to reduce the high maternal mortality and has identified family planning as a key strategy for achieving this goal as articulated in the National Health Strategic Plan (2014 to 2020) and the National Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) Policy (2017 to 2026).
Gambia Commitment Objectives
- Attain an uninterrupted supply of contraceptives at all levels of care delivery by reducing the proportion of facilities experiencing FP commodity stockouts from 17% to 10% by 2020.
- Increase the modern contraceptive prevalence rate (mCPR) from 9% in 2017 to 13% by the end of 2020 among married women.
- Reduce the unmet need for modern family planning from 25% in 2017 to 21% by the end of 2020.
